5 Ways to Protect Yourself in the Sun

The sun: it’s a beautiful thing, but too much of it can be a bad thing. Everyone knows that excessive exposure to the sun can cause all sorts of damage, like sunburns, skin damage and even cancer. However, here is a number of ways to protect yourself in the sun, so that you can enjoy its soothing rays without some of the more disadvantageous consequences. Sunburns can be excruciating, especially if you’ve been in the sun for a long time. Sunblock is one way to protect yourself, but if you really want to protect yourself, you need total coverage. Here are five ways to protect yourself in the sun.

  1. Make sure you are completely hydrated. Hydration is critical when you are trying to protect yourself from the sun’s rays. Having enough water will keep your skin healthy to better absorb the sun’s rays – without letting them damage the skin. Not only that, but by staying hydrated, you can protect yourself from headaches and the nausea caused by sunstroke. If you know that you are going to be outdoors and in the sun for an extended period of time, it is recommended to keep a water bottle on you at all times.
  2. Try to avoid the most direct rays of the sun, which are typically shining down between the hours of 12 noon and 3 p.m. – especially in the summertime. Just like you would avoid traffic, you should avoid direct sunlight. If you can, be sure to run your errands in the morning or afternoon – at night would be best. If you do have to be out during the more direct hours, try to plan your itinerary by so that you can stay out of the sun – your car makes a perfect cover.
  3. Always protect your lips. Just like putting on sunblock is important, keeping your lips covered is important too. Your lips are incredibly susceptible to sun damage – far more susceptible than the skin around it. This is mostly because the skin over the lips is so thin. In the direct sunlight, you could risk severely damaging your lips. Having dry, cracked, or blood lips can be incredibly painful. It is recommended to use lip balm with sun protection rather than just plain lip balm.
  4. Be sure to wear protection. Sunglasses are an excellent way to keep your eyes protected from direct sunlight. If you have particularly light eyes, wearing sunglasses is even more important. Also, wearing a hat is important to, especially one that provides shade for your entire face and neck. In fact, Hats Unlimited has some amazing options like for all sorts of hats, so that you don’t need to worry about not being stylish – even when you are trying to protect yourself from the sun.
  5. Always wear sunscreen. Sunscreen is one of the best ways to protect your skin from the ravages of the sun. If you spend a lot of time in the sun, sunscreen is even more important. Just make sure, though, to put it on 30 to 40 minutes before you go into the sun, because you want to give it time to soak in and activate. Once you have sunblock on, you can enjoy all the amazing, relaxing benefits of lying in the sun.

Are you suffering from severe neck pain? Read on

The neck supports the entire weight of your head, which is about 12 pounds. Also known as the cervical spine, it runs from the base of the skull, all the way downwards, and it contains small vertebrae as well. Because the cervical spine can move your head in all directions, except backwards, this flexibility makes it prone to injuries. But neck pains also affect your shoulders as well as your head. Therefore, a patient suffering from neck pains might experience headaches as well as pain in their shoulders.

If not treated, neck pains can significantly reduce the range of motion making it extremely difficult to twist or look sideways. An attempt to do so may only result in more pain. There are many factors that can cause pain in your cervical spine and you can know many more by

1 Whiplash

You can bring a series of minor injuries on your cervical spine if you suddenly moved your head to the opposite direction, then quickly returning it to its normal position. This is what is referred to as ”Whiplash”. The sudden movement of your head can harm the surrounding muscles and tissues in the neck hence causing muscle fatigue. Symptoms of whiplash may include:
  • Pain in the neck
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Blurred vision
  • Dizziness
If there’s an injury in the intervertebral joints, ligaments and muscles, then a severe case of whiplash may be experienced. Whiplash is also common among victims of road accidents.
However, individuals can also get a whiplash from a fall, or when taking part in a sports activity.

2 Repetitive strains

Your poor posture will be blamed for your injuries. Today, people sit in front of computers for long hours, not minding their posture. And these injuries are becoming more apparent, such that a number of companies are re-organizing their offices to make them posture friendly.

Additionally, they have even invested in spinal wellness centers aimed at teaching people on how to maintain the right posture and avoid injuries. It’s remarkable that for every dollar that a company invests in a wellness center, there’s a return of $2.13 and $10.10. That’s according to an article from American journal of health promotions. Statistics also show that 75% of the companies in the fortune 500 participate in a wellness program. This is an indication of how serious people are taking posture-related problems.

3 Lifestyle

Poor sitting posture, obesity and weak abdominal muscles have been blamed to cause spinal balance disruption. Again, emotional tension may cause muscles to tighten and contract. This may bring mild pains on the neck, as well as the shoulders.

What chiropractors do

A chiropractor will assess your situation and possibly ask a few questions about your condition. Once a thorough assessment is done, they will feel your spine, the alignment as well as muscle spasm around the affected area. Your doctor will also test your reflexes, muscle strength as well as other muscle changes.

Chiropractic treatment does not involve the use of drugs or surgery. If you are suffering from a severe neck fracture, or an organic disease, they may refer you to the appropriate physician or you can visit for treatment.

However, if your condition can be rectified with chiropractic treatment, then they’ll go ahead and treat it using a technique called cervical manipulation. It’s a technique that aims at improving the mobility of the spine, while increasing the range of motion. In the end, patients can tilt and move their heads with great ease.

Other treatments such as massage, mobilization, or rehabilitative exercises may be administered, depending on your situation.

5 Ways To Improve The Symptoms Of Psoriasis

The Lowdown On Psoriasis
Sufferers of psoriasis generally have red, sore, dry, flaky patches of skin on their body. These can also be covered in silvery scales. Generally people are diagnosed with this when they are under the age of 35, but actually anyone can be a sufferer – it also affects both males and females.

When you have psoriasis you’ll often get patches on your knees, scalp, elbow and lower back, although this can spread to much wider areas. If these are left untreated then they can quickly become sore and itchy which is very uncomfortable for the sufferer.

Psoriasis goes through cycles of being more extreme than others, so if you do suffer from this then you might have days, weeks or even months that are better than others. There are no real rules for this condition – lots of people get it much worse than others too.

If  you are worried that you might have this then your GP can usually diagnose this just by looking at the areas of sore skin. On occasion you might not to visit a dermatologist but this isn’t usually needed.

At the moment psoriasis is still something that is being looked in to – with the medical professional still not sure how to cure it or why certain people get it. It is caused by a person’s skin regenerating once or twice a week, compared to someone who doesn’t have this whose skin will regenerate 3-4 times a year. As it regenerates so often you get a buildup of skin cells which cause these red, dry, flaky sore patches.

As it stands there is no cure for psoriasis here are treatments available that can relieve symptoms and make it easier to live with. Often these treatments are a matter of you trying them and seeing how they work for you. Psoriasis is not a one-size-fits-all condition and therefore neither is its treatment.

See Your Doctor

At the very first stages you should see your doctor, at the very least to get a proper diagnosis. Once you have been diagnosed they’ll probably give you a topical treatment to start. These are generally Vitamin D analogues or topical corticosteroids which are creams applied to the affected area. If this isn’t as effective as you would like them you could be referred to phototherapy – having your skin exposed to ultraviolet light. If this doesn’t offer enough relief then you could go for oral or injected medicines, but you would have to discuss this with your doctor and get their advice.

Change Your Diet

Many people have found that a change in diet can show a big improvement in their symptoms. Generally speaking this involves following a normal healthy, varied diet – with plenty of fruit and vegetables. If you are overweight then losing weight could also help to relieve symptoms.

Your Medicine Cabinet

There are different supplements that you can take which have been known to relieve symptoms. Often these are items you’ll already have in your medicine cabinet at home so are worth trying – fish oil, vitamin D, milk thistle and evening primrose oil have all been known to help. Some people have also found that fish oil applied directly to the skin offers some relief too.

Herbal Supplements

Here are different herbal supplements that are worth trying too. One that has had significant good feedback and positive results is Tinefcon. Take from Asian plant Sphaeranthus Indicus this has been recognized for its medial elements for thousands of years. Now a day you can buy it in pill form which means that you don’t have to worry about how you are going to take it. If you check the Tinefcon website you’ll see that it can help with many different health worries including skin problems, arthritis and diabetes.

Your Home

It can be a good idea to use a humidifier in your home to keep the air moist. Dry skin is the main symptom of psoriasis so if you can keep your skin moist then this can really help. You can usually buy these reasonably cheap and if you can only buy one just buy a portable one and move it around from room to room with you to help your symptoms as much as possible.

5 Ways for New Car Buyers to Save Money

Purchasing a car can be a big deal and it shouldn’t be taken lightly. Not only do cars cost a lot of money – they are also a big long-term investment. If you are looking for a loan, you are adding a whole new element into the mix. In the end, you may start to feel like you are in over your head. However, here is a number of ways to save money, so that you don’t feel like you are taking such a tremendous blow to your savings. Purchasing a car requires foresight, perception, and an understanding of the current economic climate. Here are five ways for new car buyers to save money.

  1. Purchase your warranty on the side. Everyone will tell you that a warranty is a good idea. How could it not be? Well, not only can a warranty add thousands of dollars to the sticker price of the vehicle – it could also cause your loan rate to jump if you are borrowing from a lender to pay off your vehicle. If you want to purchase a warranty – a factory warranty – you want to make a secondary agreement and purchase it as an accessory.
  2. Don’t go for all the bells and whistles. Car salesman will always try and push the bells and whistles. Also, they are extremely experienced at the car selling game, so you have to be extremely weary. You could wind up with accessories on your vehicle and have no idea that you paid extra for them. There is a strong chance that you don’t even need many of these extras, so it is worth it to simply ignore them.
  3. Make sure to have your auto loan secured before you start looking for a vehicle. There are a lot of lenders that you can choose from – regardless of your credit rate. Many of these companies have websites that allow you to ‘click here‘ for more info. You can get quotes and even read reviews. Out of all the car buying tips that anyone can give you – getting pre-approved is one of the smartest moves you can make. The last thing you want is to fall in love with a car you can’t own.
  4. Do your research. The last thing you want to do is put a down payment on the first car you fall in love with. There is not only a chance that you will fall in love with many cars, but once you do get to your final choice, you want to be sure that you get the best deal. So, make sure that you do your research and shop around – that is the key to getting the best deal.
  5. Don’t let the car dealer know that you have been pre-approved for a loan. If you want to pay more for a car, simply tell the dealer that you have been pre-approved for a loan and you will notice that the cost of the vehicle will suddenly rise. If you want to save money, you want to be sure to let the dealer know that you have a loan agreement after you sign a contract stating the final cost of the vehicle.

5 Entertaining Films for Stock Traders

Day traders with an appreciation for quality cinema can find an entertaining assortment of films related to their profession. From hard-hitting documentaries to artful escapist fantasies, stock-trading themes span an impressive array of cinematic genres. As an added bonus, many of these films give novice traders an idea of what to expect when they hit the big leagues. After watching any of these Wall Street films, you can enhance your understanding by learning more about how the stock market operates.

“The Wolf of Wall Street”

Martin Scorsese’s 2013 Best Picture nominee tells the story of real-life stock broker turned criminal, Jordan Belfort. Adapted from Belfort’s memoirs of the same name, the darkly comic film follows Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) from his humble beginnings as a small cog in a Wall Street brokerage firm, to his fall from grace as the mastermind of a fraudulent investment empire. As DiCaprio’s character states in the film, Wall Street is a complex place— one that’s primed for corruption.
After losing his job at a high profile brokerage firm as a result of 1987’s infamous Black Monday market crash, Jordan discovers he can make a small fortune selling penny stocks to moderately wealthy investors. With this in mind, he wastes no time recruiting his shady friends and starting his own investment firm. As his business grows, Jordan’s dishonest sales practices draw the attention of the FBI, which sets the stage for his ultimate downfall. Investors interested in seeing the consequences of corruption in the stock market should watch this film.

“American Psycho”

Set in the late 1980s and based on Bret Easton Ellis’s controversial 1991 novel, “American Psycho” is a gore-filled satire of materialism, greed, shallowness and ‘80s popular culture. By day, Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) works as an investment banker at a bustling NYC brokerage firm. Despite his cushy job and booming net worth, Bateman gets very little work done, spending the bulk of his time at the office obsessing over designer clothing, chic haircuts and trendy new restaurants. By night, Bateman is consumed by homicidal urges and engages in horrific acts of murder.
Equal parts funny and cringe-worthy, “American Psycho” follows its antihero’s quest to maintain his sanity in a culture consumed by greed and outward appearance. As Publishers Weekly reports, Bret Easton Ellis penned the original novel at a time when he was disillusioned by society and corporate culture. Fans of the film should pick up a copy of Ellis’s “Rules of Attraction,” in which Patrick Bateman plays a supporting role.

“Boiler Room”

Another film at inspired by the life of Jordan Belfort, albeit not as true-to-life as “The Wolf of Wall Street,” 2003’s “Boiler Room” takes a hard-hitting look at corrupt stock brokers. The film follows finance-savvy college dropout Seth Davis (Giovanni Ribisi), who is recruited by charismatic stock broker Chris Varick (Vin Diesel) to join his brokerage firm. Shortly after starting his new job, Seth discovers many of the stocks peddled to clients are for companies that have gone out of business or simply do not exist.
Content with taking advantage of the wealthy and gullible at first, Seth later has a change of heart when he discovers that the firm’s fraudulent practices have bankrupted a number of clients. This prompts him to work with the FBI to bring the firm’s actions to light and punish those at the top. Investors in the mood for an edge-of-your-seat crime drama needn’t look any further than “Boiler Room.”

“Wall Street”

Responsible for introducing audiences to iconic antihero Gordon Gecko and his infamous catchphrase, 1987’s “Wall Street” tells the story of well-meaning junior broker Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen), who becomes the protege of notorious stock shark Gordon Gecko (Michael Douglass).
At first, Bud enjoys the perks of being a corporate raider — a corner office, a bombshell girlfriend and more money than he knows what to do with. However, Bud soon has an attack of conscience after discovering that Gecko’s anything-goes approach to corporate takeovers has cost thousands of people their livelihood. This gives way to a riveting battle of wits between Bud and his devilishly clever mentor.

“Quants: The Alchemists of Wall Street”

If you want to learn more about the technical side of the stock market, 2010’s “Quants” is essential viewing. This fascinating documentary looks at the lives of the mathematicians and computer experts responsible for developing the mathematical models for consumer spending habits used by top investors. Entertaining and highly informative, “Quants” introduces viewers to an often-overlooked faction of Wall Street.
In addition to being an interesting subject for real-life study, the stock market serves as the backdrop for a plethora of entertaining films. With such an abundance of five-star cinema, day traders can easily mix business with pleasure the next time they watch a movie.

5 Natural Dental Health Tips for the Eco-Friendly Crowd

We all know the basics of dental health maintenance: brush, floss, and rinse daily and visit the dentist regularly for a checkup and professional cleaning. But if you’ve subscribed to green living sensibilities, you may be looking for eco-friendly ways to keep your teeth and gums in good shape. Here are just a few natural dental health tips that are sure to please anyone looking to exercise environmental responsibility and you can see the other tips at

  1. Try natural toothpaste. If you’re looking for a natural way to clean your teeth, Tom’s of Maine offers a variety of chemical-free toothpaste options. But if you’d rather eschew manufacturing, you can also make your own products at home. One easy recipe is to mix baking soda with water to form a mildly abrasive paste that can remove food particles and stains, as well as neutralize odor. Adding hydrogen peroxide to the mix will also help to kill bacteria, but you should talk to your dentist before you do this to make sure you get the right products and the proper mixture. You could also make your own Ayurvedic toothpaste by with a combination of several herbs designed to clean your mouth and improve circulation in your gums, but it might be more convenient and cost-effective to buy this product.
  2. Coat teeth with coconut oil. Whether you wipe it on with a soft cloth after you brush or you “pull” it (put some in your mouth and suck it back and forth through teeth for several minutes), coating your teeth with coconut oil adds a protective layer that helps to prevent staining and the adhesion of food particles and bacteria, keeping teeth cleaner and whiter.
  3. Floss. Brushing isn’t good enough when it comes to getting at food particles and bacteria that get stuck between teeth and under the gum line, causing plaque and tartar buildup. You are going to have to floss daily to lessen the impact of harmful elements in your mouth and protect your teeth and gums.
  4. Eat right. Avoiding processed sugars, acidic foods, and chemical additives and preservatives, as well as harmful foods that can stain, crack, or chip your teeth is a good step towards keeping them healthy and preventing cavities, tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral health issues. You can also add calcium to your diet through the inclusion of dairy products and you should sip water throughout the day to supplement the saliva that acts as your mouth’s natural rinsing agent.
  5. Find a biological dentist. It’s a little naive to think that your efforts at home are enough to protect your teeth from damage and prevent cavities, tooth decay, and other problems from occurring. You really need to see a dentist for regular cleanings and check-ups. And if you’re looking for alternatives to standard dental practices when it comes to maintaining healthy teeth, you might want to seek out a qualified biological dentist in your area. Of course, this specialist might not be so easy to find. And if this is the case, simply talk to your regular dentist at Wilshire Family Dental or the office nearest you about alternative treatment options that are more natural and in keeping with your eco-friendly ideals.

Signs You Should Take Your Cat To The Vet Immediately

Sometimes it is obvious that your cat needs medical attention, for example, if it has had an accident or is showing visible signs of distress. However, your feline friend may also exhibit more subtle but equally as important signs that he or she needs to visit for the vet.

Some of the key signs to be aware of are listed below;

  • Excessive meowing It’s not unusual for cats to become increasingly vocal when they are trying to get your attention, but this can also be your cat telling you something is amiss. If your cat continues to meow excessively even after all of her needs have been met (check she has food and water, play with her and give her attention if this is what she is asking for) then it could be an indication that something is not right.
  • Difficulty using the litter box. If your cat is straining when using the litter box this could be a sign that there is something wrong. If your cat is having difficulty urinating or defecating it could be a sign of constipation, urinary tract infections or for male cats – obstruction. Obstruction of the urinary system can be life threatening, so if you notice your cat is having a lot of difficulty urinating you should get him to the vet immediately. If left untreated an obstructed bladder can cause kidney failure and even death.
  • Difficulty breathing. It is not uncommon for cats to grow stuffy and exhibit common cold symptoms such as a runny nose and crusty eyes, however, very labored breathing could be a symptom of something much worse. A healthy cat should show barely detectable signs of breathing, but if your cat is resting and showing signs of increased respiratory effort or distress, then you need to get her to the vet straight away. In particular, a cat breathing with his or her mouth open is a sign that something is very wrong so you should seek help straight away. Open-mouthed breathing could be a warning sign of fluid in the lung tissue- pulmonary edema- or fluid between the lungs and the chest wall- pleural effusion, both of which need attention immediately.
  • Increased sleep. Cats are happy to sleep for up to 16 hours a day, but if your cat is placing sleep as a priority above eating, drinking or playing then something is not right. Your cat should not go for more than two days without eating as failure to eat or drink for an extended period of time could cause fatal problems for her. Not eating can result in metabolic diseases such as hepatic lipidosis, which can cause life threatening liver failure in cats.
  • Any symptom that lasts for more than 48 hours or gets drastically worse. Always monitor your cat if it is showing any signs or symptoms of illness. If there is a particular symptom that has lasted for 48 hours or longer, or you notice that it has suddenly become much worse then you should seek medical advice from your vet straight away. Signs to look out for include; vomiting, limping, diarrhea, poor appetite, runny eyes, snotty nose, excessive sleeping and many at

Where Can I Use A Forklift

A lot of businesses today rely on forklifts for their day-to-day operations. A forklift is a truck used in the movement of large and heavy items. It owes its name to its prongs, which resemble a fork. Forklifts were invented in the early part of the 20th century. Since then, they became an indispensable technology in different sectors.
Forklifts bring efficiency and convenience in different industries and businesses. Below are some areas where you can benefit from using a forklift and you can know many more about that at

  • Warehouses and distribution centers
Forklifts are commonly used in indoor areas such as distribution centers and warehouses. In these areas, forklifts are used to load and unload trucks, transport, stack and pick goods. Basically, a forklift is utilized to lift objects such as crates, drums, stacked boxes, equipment and other objects, which require a lot of effort and human resources to carry manually.
  • Construction sites
Another area where forklifts find usage is in construction sites. Construction materials such as lumber, bricks and hardware are heavy and must be transported to long distances. Forklifts play a dual role of being a lifting tool and a vehicle for transporting these materials from one location to another. Moreover, forklifts address the issue where large delivery trucks cannot access narrow parts of a construction site. Being smaller in size, forklifts are used to carry materials from the delivery truck to the target location.
  • Dockyards
During the World War II, forklifts were used in loading and unloading arms and supplies in ships and barges. At present, forklifts are still useful in transporting huge containers and cargoes from dockside storage areas to the vessels.
  • Snow plows
Forklifts may also be utilized for shoveling snow. By simply buying or renting a particular attachment for a forklift, it can be used as a snow plow. This alternative gives consumers a cheaper and more efficient solution for clearing accumulated snow in the walkways, roadways, parking lot and operating areas of a business.
  • Lifting people
Today, forklifts are no longer just used for carrying and transporting goods. A lot of businessmen have maximized forklifts by using them as a tool for lifting people. Instead of buying another machine specially for transporting people, businessmen just buy or hire attachments that will serve as platforms and safety cages. Employees then can conduct inventory, perform maintenance work, and accomplish tasks in elevated areas.
Truly, forklifts have revolutionized the flow of business operations today. Investing in one for your business or personal use will surely be a wise move.
